This Week's Big U.S. Dance Event: World of Dance Chicago, with Poreotics, Royal Flush, Footworkingz ++

The major dance event this weekend in the U.S. takes place in Chicago at World of Dance. Exhibition crews include America's Best Dance Crew 5's Poreotics and Royal Flush, as well as  Footworkings (America's Got Talent), and Remote Kontrol (So You Think You Can Dance). Maybe you'll see one of the next ABDC competitors there. And, the event will feature b-boy and b-girl battles too. Click here for more information and to buy tickets.

Though "Agent of Secret Stuff" from NigaHiga and Wong Fu Productions was designed for the computer screen, it had a special big-screen opening on November 24, 2010. Watch the 35-minute martial-arts comedy here. On hand at the premiere were multiple members of Quest Crew giving support to crewmate Dtrix in his acting debut. Pacific Rim interviewed many of them, as well as other stars of the production.

ABDC Season 6: Who do you most want to see on the show?

Now that America's Best Dance Crew's new season is no longer speculation, it's time for some other speculation/wishful thinking? Who would you like to see on the show? Here are links to videos (including some from the ABDC auditions) forthe groups that auditioned for Season 5 from New York (parts I, 2, 3, and 4), Los Angeles (parts 1, 2, 3, 4), Denver (Parts 1 and 2), and Atlanta (Parts 1 and 2). How about the groups at Hip Hop International -- any that you'd like to see get work visas? How about groups with So You Think You Can Dance veterans -- will that show feed us another winner like Quest? If you've got other nominees, name them and include a video in your comments!

Paula Abdul's Live to Dance will premiere January 4 on CBS -- will you be watching?

The new CBS competition series Live to Dance will debut with a special two hour episode, Tuesday, Jan. 4 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). Paula Abdul is an executive producer, mentor and lead expert of the series. It will then move to its regular time period on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on Jan. 5, and then be broadcast LIVE starting Wednesday, Jan. 12. 

The premiere episode of Live to Dance will follow dancers from across the country auditioning for Abdul and the series' experts in specially constructed Dance Domes that were built in both New York and Los Angeles to host the auditions. At the end of the premiere episode, a group of dancers from all styles, backgrounds and ages will be selected for the cast. When the show moves to its regular time period on Wednesday, Jan. 5, an additional group of dancers from the Dance Dome auditions, who the experts feel deserve a second look, will have one final opportunity to compete in a dance-off, to earn a coveted spot in the cast. Those contestants who make it through the dance-off will travel to Los Angeles, rounding out the final cast of 18 dance acts. 

Starting Wednesday, Jan. 12, the first six dance acts will compete against each other live on CBS with two acts advancing. After a total of three rounds, the six dance acts that have advanced will compete against one another in the grand finale, where they will battle for the right to be crowned Live to Dance champion and awarded a $500,000 prize.

B-Woman Power -- Beat Freaks (B-girl pros) meet with Momz-N-Da-Hood (B-mom aspirants)

The Beat Freaks (ABDC3 runners-up and current stars of Old Navy ads among their many credits) and Momz-N-Da Hood (auditioners for ABDC5 and for Paula Abdul's upcoming show Live to Dance) spent some quality time together after the Beat Freaks completed a busy weekend giving workshops on Long Island, N.Y.    Lady Jules even took the time to help Lori with her headspin technique! There was a lot of love and mutual respect in the room which strengthens the belief that HipHop dance brings together people who share the passion. 

It's NOW official: America's Best Dance Crew 6 starts in April 2011!

MTV announced today that America’s Best Dance Crew Season Six is scheduled to premiere April 2011 with casting underway in January 2011. Auditions will be held in cities nationwide; schedule to be announced soon.  I've heard that it will be back on Thursday nights, but not in direct competition with American Idol.

DirtfaceX's field report (with video) on Beat Freaks workshops in New York

DirtfaceX attended two recemt sessions of Beat Freaks workshops. Here's his report:

On November 13 and 14, 2010, Teresa Espinosa, Rino Nakasone, Alison 'Al-Star' Faulk, and Lady Jules of The Beat Freaks taught several workshops on Long Island, NY.  The first one I attended was on Saturday night.  The turnout was great!  As soon as I walked in, there were about 50 or so kids ready to take the workshops.  We were split into two groups - Group 1 was anyone under the age of 14, and Group 2 were the rest.  Alison and Jules taught the first group, while Teresa and Rino taught the second.  I barely kept up with Teresa's workshop - not that it was TOO difficult, but I'm not a dancer.  That said, I didn't even try Rino's workshop.  She taught a k-pop routine and it looked pretty intense.  Sorry, no videos.  Throughout the class, Teresa and Rino were stressing the point of 'musicality', 'being in the moment', and 'feeling the music'.  Afterwards, anyone who wanted to got the opportunity to meet the girls and have their photo taken.

According to Allkpop.com, Wong Fu Productions and Ryan Higa (nigahiga) produced a 40-minute feature titled, ‘Agents of Secret Stuff‘ which will premiere on NigaHiga Youtube on November 24, with a special screening premiere at CGV Cinemas in Los Angeles.

Florida Dance crew sets creates massive terrorism scare in New York City

The NY Post reports on Club Envy (a Jacksonville-based stepping crew) and their unexcellent adventure in New York: "A camouflage-clad Florida dance troupe desperate to make it to a live TV talent show set off a rush-hour terror scare when they ditched their cars in merciless Lincoln Tunnel traffic and tried to sprint through the tube. The FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force was called in -- and a massive contingent of heavily armed cops surrounded the harmless performers, who stood teary-eyed in their showy costumes as hundreds of angry drivers were stuck in the snarl. "They drew their guns on us at first," said Landon Burse, 24, the group's executive director who arranged the appearance on BET's "106 & Park".

JungleBoogieCrewTV -- submit birthday wishes to be part of their first Youtube episode!

Jungle Boogie (America's Best Dance Crew Season 5) has started JungleBoogieCrewTV a.k.a JBCTV on Youtube.  They posted a trailer showing a sample of what to expect in the episodes -- comedy mixed with a bit of dancing!  All of the episodes will be outtakes/ behind the scenes footage of the crew at events, in practice, meetings and much more. 

Nov. 27th is the crew's official birthday and their 1st full episode will air on that date.  The crew is also asking for anyone that would like to wish them a happy birthday, to record themselves saying it. New Episode of The LXD: "The Greater of Two Evils" -- watch it now!

Wednesday morning = time for more The LXD. This week's episode called "The Greater of Two Evils" depicts evil vs. evil battling in a museum to steal a treasure. The evil ones include many outstanding dancers playing either Umbras (suave James Bond types with umbrellas) or the OX (more like street punks). Later today, I'll post a podcast with Klaamation member Cornbread, who plays one of the Umbras; in it he describes the intense process of creating this week's choreography. Happy watching!

Rino and Maryss from Paris (members of Beat Freaks and Geminiz) played evil mermaids in the latest episode of The LXD - Tails of War. I spoke to them last week about their experience, finding out how they got involved with the project, whether they'd rather play heroes or villains, and the hardest part about the role (it's NOT what you'd expect!). They also described their activities with Beat Freaks and Geminiz, other dancing opportunities they'd like to pursue, their regrets at not getting to perform with Michael Jackson, and more. Help me create an ABDC trivia contest!

Thanks to everyone who submitted ideas for new contests for this website -- there were many interesting entries. For a number of reasons, I've chosen to delay the more labor-intensive contests (e.g., asking for video responses to weekly challenges) though I would like to run those in the future.

Many people wanted a challenging trivia contest on America's Best Dance Crew, its contestants and personalities. But I need your help in creating it. I need questions to pose each week that are 1. interesting, 2. non-obvious, 3. not easily answered through Web searches, and 4. verifiable. If you or your friends have some suggestions, please email them to ABDCContest@gmail.com. Please include the question, answer, and the source I can use to verify it.

What's in it for you? If I use one of your questions, you'll obviously know the answer, which will increase your chances of winning. If you've got a LOT of good questions, I'll disqualify you from the contest but give you a $10-20 iTunes gift certificate. I'll start the contest once I receive and verify 8-12 good questions.

PerezOverride was near the front and went to the meet and greet as well: "because we were at the front, when we got to the meet and great(almost at the end of the line) it took us about 2 hours to meet the all the performers. Quest Crew to appear on Disney's Shake it Up on Sunday November 14 (video preview)

Quest Crew will appear on the second episode of Disney's new show Shake it Up on November 14 8:30 ET/PT. According to ThaIndian News: "The show is about two best friends, Ce Ce Jones and Rocky Blues, played by Bella Thorne and Zendaya, who aspire to become professional dancers. They finally see their dreams coming true when the hottest dance competition, “Shake It Up Chicago,” comes to their town for an audition." Said Shake It Up Star Bella Thorne inJustJaredJr.: “I really love the Quest Dance Crew. They did this head thing that’s really hard to describe. Demi Lovato goes to rehab after punching Beat Freak Shorty

According to TMZ, Demi Lovato decided she needed to go into rehab after she gave a black eye to Alex Welch (Shorty) of the Beat Freaks (America's Best Dance Crew Season 3). "We're told Welch -- who had a pretty nasty shiner from the incident -- has been talking to lawyers and is considering legal action. Both Demi and Shorty are on the Jonas Brothers tour.  Click here to see some pictures of Shorty and her black eye.

I am reporting about this because it's in the media. I'd much rather Shorty get attention because she's a fantastic dancer. Watch this:

Documentary of the Keep It Live Jam -- capturing all the action!

The Keep It Live Jam  held Sat, Oct 2 in Norwalk, CA had a great turnout with dancers coming from Canada, Japan, Arizona, San Diego, and Los Angeles. The New LXD video is up early: The Mark of the Ox -- introducing 11 archvillains!

Hulu posted the next episode of The LXD this afternoon. This one is called 'The Mark of the Ox". It introduces the viewers to a number of new villains in the Ox (the archenemies of the LXD) including Shado (played by Travis Wong of MTV's Ultimate Parkour Challenge), The Illster (played by Daniel 'Cloud' Campos), Stakka (played by Beastmode's Josue), The Wave (played by Ricardo Rodriguez from Step Up 3D) and Karey (played by Carey Ysais, host of the Choreographer's Ball).

Shane Sparks news - arraignment set for November 15

Former ABDC judge Shane Sparks will be going to trial on child molestation charges later this month. According to the Beverly Hills Courier, Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Jessica Silvers found sufficient evidence to require Sparks to stand trial. Sparks is due back in Van Nuys Superior Court for arraignment Nov. 15." Click here for earlier information about the charges and arrest.

Video: New collabo featuring dancing from BABDC readers, Andy (Quest Crew), Hybrid of Freedom

Ninjaboi created a new collaboration video starring BloggingBestDanceCrew.com readers (Names are Overrated, Poppin iSik, Team Vibe Philippines, Dance, Maxxann, Kit, Kid Bowser, HiddenPsyche, Bgurl Ethel, and Ninjaboi) and special guests Andy (Rocket Man) Luo of Quest Crew and Hybrids of Freedom Krumpers (as well as some stills of other BABDC community members. Here's Ninjaboi's description:
After Isaac's great first BABDC collab, I was inspired to take up the mantle and attempt to match his efforts with a second collab and showcase the talents of our readers and the dance groups they are affiliated with.  We began planning this video in late summer, beginning by seeing who was interested in participating.  After we had a rough idea of that, we voted on a single song we would all dance to, and "Fancy Footwork" won out.  While there was  originally a slightly different, more ambitious concept (instead of merely doing a slideshow of each individual, to cycle through each dancer multiple times as the song was playing, similar to a music video, possibly including some lip synching; in addition, there was a planned introduction that never came to fruition), various circumstances beyond our control led certain individuals to be unable to participate, and others to limiting their contribution, leading a rethinking of the project.  Over time, individuals submitted their videos to me and i redubbed them and put them together.  We were even able to get a few celebrity guest appearances in there thanks to connections made on this website.  

In the end, this is the final product.  While the credits take up just under half of the total video time, I still hope that you sit and watch it though to the end, as there is a lot of unused footage that I wished to show.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you all!
